Studio Lighting Naturally by Jodie Otte

Are you limiting yourself as a photographer?

This workshop is designed exclusively for the natural light photographer who wants to add "natural-looking artificial light" to their bag of tools.

So many photographers steer away from artificial light, afraid that it will be too harsh and fake and will never be able to maintain that natural soft look, that we all love so much. Many natural light photographers become intimidated by the equipment choices - there are just so many options out there.

How many of us have gotten frustrated when traveling to locations, finding out only when we arrive, that our clients' houses, though beautiful, are not ideal for natural lighting - they are very dimly lit - not allowing for much variety during the shoot..... or what about those days when weather is not cooperating, and if you could just have one more "window", the shoot could be just that much better but there isn't another window to be had, so you weren't completely happy with your session....

In this workshop, Jodie brings simplicity to shooting with artificial lighting. She has spent several years perfecting her techniques to achieving a more natural soft diffuse lighting with her tiny subjects, and more dramatic and beautiful lighting to flatter her expectant clients.

The majority of Jodie's clients are expectant moms and newborns. We are dedicating a good portion of this workshop to shooting expectant moms, and how to photograph and work with newborns.

No more frustrating newborn sessions - learn how to achieve the correct angles when photographing newborns, how to achieve "the curl", and how to get those final touches that transform a simple 'baby picture' into a work of art. We felt this segment can complement learning natural studio lighting as many photographers are in areas where natural light is a luxury in the fall and winter time and not always ideal. You can delay child sessions due to weather and such, you cannot delay newborn sessions. Learning how to shoot artificial light more naturally will open up so many doors (or more "windows")

Learn how to light pregnancy for beauty and artistic interest - what works, and what doesn't.

Stop feeling limited in your photography/portrait work. Become a better, more well-rounded photographer with more tools at your disposal without compromising a natural look. This is by no means trying to convert you to artificial lighting, it is only to add an invaluable tool that will ultimately make you a better photographer who is not limited in what you can do.

This workshop will take place at the Otte Studio inside the historic Monkton Hotel circa 1840, in beautiful rural Monkton, Maryland.

Each workshop will consist of only 12-16 attendees to allow for a more intimate learning atmosphere where all questions may be answered as well as hands on demonstrations. Each attendee will receive a workbook as well as Jodie's personal PhotoShop actions on CD.

We will also cover simple post processing - what Jodie does to her studio images after they are taken, Jodie's marketing and pricing, what has worked for her. She will do her best to answer any and all questions.
